Immerse yourself in the time-honored Moroccan hammam experience, a rejuvenating ritual that combines cleansing, exfoliation, and massage to leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized amidst a serene, traditional atmosphere.

Inherited from the Romans, the hammam is a traditional bathhouse that remains prevalent in Moroccan culture and the wider Muslim world, and it has been used throughout history to fulfil the cleansing requirements of Islamic prayer. A steam-filled chamber where men and women are separated, a public hammam is attended to by a tellak (for men) or natir (for women) who guides bathers through the ritual, providing exfoliation, cleansing and massage. Nowadays, there are some extremely opulent private hammams, and this experience should be relished at least once during your time in Morocco. Every hammam experience is unique, but typically you’ll enter a steam-filled room and lie on a heated marble slab, where the attendant exfoliates you with a kassa glove. Next, you’ll be washed with Moroccan black soap made from olive oil and eucalyptus, smothered with mineral-rich clay known as rhassoul, and given a full body massage. Finally, take to the relaxation area and enjoy a refreshing mint tea.
