Bathsheva dance company

The Bathsheva dance company has been critically acclaimed and popularly embraced as one of the foremost contemporary dance companies in the world.

It stands as Israel’s largest dance company, with an ambitious performance schedule locally and internationally of 250 annual shows in front of an aggregate audience of 100,000. Founded in 1964 by the Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild, since 1990 the company has been led by Ohad Naharin.

Ohad Naharin has been renowned as one of the world’s outstanding contemporary choreographers. Since becoming Bathshava’s Artistic Director, Naharin has catapulted the company to the forefront of world dance, redoubling its status. Naharin created the Gaga form of dance, an innovative movement language which has refashioned the way in which the Company trains. With Gaga, dancers train in a studio without mirrors, and with a teacher who is part of the movement and who moves with the dancers. Dancers layer their movements so as to focus awareness on different parts of the body, and respond creatively and often in exaggerated and intense fashion to images such as ‘cooked spaghetti’ and ‘floating in water’.

The Bathsheva dance company is located in the Suzanne Dellal Centre in the attractive Neve Tzedek neighbourhood of Tel Aviv. We strongly recommend seeing Bathsheva while you are in Tel Aviv. For small groups looking for something truly special and memorable, we are able to arrange private performances, dance lessons with the Company, and meetings with Ohad Naharin.

I wanted to thank you again for the wonderful “trip of a lifetime” you arranged for us. It truly was exactly what I had hoped it would be, and in fact we are eager to return. We will see you on our next go around.
