Three reasons you MUST visit Jordan

Aug 07, 2017

1. Petra

Named one of the new wonders of the world, Petra is a wonder and a half.
The site was the crown and glory of the ancient Nabatean empire, with huge
monuments carved into the rose coloured rocks of the desert.

Petra and Jordan

As well as being a feast for history buffs, Petra is great for those who love to hike.
We hiked from Little Petra to Petra itself, entering by the back way so that
after an hour of walking through stunning desert scenery it was as if we
just happened to stumble across the magnificent site of the Monastery.
Other highlights included viewing the Treasury from the ‘high place’, and
getting a lift on a camel when my legs finally felt fatigued!
We also did an extraordinary private dinner at Little Petra which was
especially closed for us one evening – the whole site lit with candles for
what turned out to be the most magical, romantic dinner ever!

2. Jerash

Everyone’s heard of Petra, but fewer people know about Jerash. And yet
Jerash is gob-smackingly impressive. Anyone who is interested in the
Classical world  really owes it to them self to come visit this ancient
city.

In fact Jerash is commonly believed to be the best example of a
complete Roman city anywhere outside of Italy. The site is remarkable both
because of the quality of the remains and because of its scale. Highlights
include two theatres – one with original marble flooring and the other
seating 3000 people; two temples – the temple to Zeus being most impressive;
a huge fountain; and of course the Cardo itself.
And as if all that were not enough, there is an utterly charming and totally
delicious restaurant just nearby called the Lebanese House.

3. Four Seasons Hotel, Amman

The Four Seasons do it well all over the world. However in Amman the chain’s
international standards combine with Jordanian hospitality to produce a
level of service and comfort which is outstanding.

When we stayed at the hotel, each member of the large staff knew us by name, and really made us
feel both genuinely welcome and somehow special.  The rooms are classic and
extremely comfortable – and if you feel like splurging then the Executive
Suite provides an even more of a roomy lux experience.
